About Microsoft Israel

Microsoft's Israel Development Center is one of Microsoft's three strategic centers worldwide. The Development Center includes 40 product groups involved in a significant portion of Microsoft's core products worldwide, all based on the most advanced technologies.

Making An Impact Right Here
The Israel Development Center is a strategic center that focuses on innovation that generates impact and encourages the entrepreneurial spirit of its employees to develop services and platforms based on technological innovation.
Many of the Company’s employees have a start-up background, and some came from acquisitions. Different groups have been formed with ideas developed in Israel when the Israeli group received a mandate to develop and mature them as a product open to all Microsoft customers. Many of the products that emerged and are developed at the Development Center are leading products of Global Microsoft. The spirit of innovation lies deep in the Company’s DNA. Microsoft’s vision is to “Empower Every Person and Organization on the Planet to Achieve More.”
In addition, Microsoft operates its “Innovation and Makers Space” at its Garage at the Development Center, which is open to all company employees. Technology workshops are also held for an external audience. The complex houses innovative equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and other technological equipment that allows employees to create prototypes for new ventures or just for technical creation. As an innovation laboratory, the Garage also promotes many collaborations in Israel and worldwide. For example, a Garage project, in partnership with Beilinson Hospital, developed at the Development Center and based on VR/AR technology, allows doctors to see three-dimensional liver imaging during an actual surgery and helps locate tumors while shortening the surgery time.
During the Corona crisis, the Garage also helped develop innovative automatic ventilators, which can be produced cheaply and in large quantities in laboratories – without the need for factories. The item is available under an “open code,” so all construction instructions were available to the public in Israel and worldwide. The innovation lab donates the equipment, materials, and the scarce components.

Bring Your Talent. Do Your Thing.
Many companies offer exemplary working environments and conditions, but it is essential for Microsoft employees also to receive added value. The employees come and stay because they understand that each has a tremendous impact on the Company, which is not taken for granted. Each employee can develop in various roles from among the 30 product groups at the Development Center – and navigate the path that best suits him within the Company. In addition, the Development Center affords them the best and most professional technological tools on the market and the full support to do this in the manner that suits them best. Each idea has an existential potential, whether an idea born in a “hackathon” that received a development budget and a group was formed or an employee enterprise for a socially responsible project.

The Development of Professional Know-How
One of Microsoft’s fundamental values is “Growth Mindset,” a state of constant learning and development.
Microsoft’s concept promotes the “Learn it All” approach instead of “Know it All.” Following its faith in these values, Microsoft invests hefty budgets in each employee for professional training and new skills. Throughout the year, the Company offers its employees a variety of technical training sessions while exposing them to new and up-to-date technologies and listening to their specific needs and requests for learning and professional development.
Besides the many courses and training sessions on various topics, every employee has open access to Pluralsight, LinkedIn, Learning O’Reilly, and many Kindle books in various fields. Microsoft’s Development Center employees stay up to date on trends and innovation in the industry by participating in leading international conferences and placing a strong emphasis on student development.
As leaders in security, Microsoft’s Development Center organizes Israel’s leading research conference in the cyber field – BlueHat IL, which has been very successful in the last five years. Each year, the conference offers 20 lectures by the world’s leading researchers, most of whom are in Israel for the first time.

The Employee Experience
Microsoft believes that for its employees to maximize their professional skills and to encourage creativity, they require a work environment that holistically responds to all their needs at work and after work. When employees enjoy a supportive environment that goes far beyond their functional requirements to fulfill their duties, the motivation to invest and thus contribute to the Company’s success increases significantly. In line with this belief, Microsoft puts much thought into creating innovative workspaces for its employees and appealing public spaces for its employees and guests.
It is important for Microsoft that its employees start their working day with a smile and feel that they have made the right choice. Apart from any pampering, Microsoft focuses on seeing its employees in their entirety. It provides them with as much support as possible at all levels of life inside and outside the office – whether to allow them to work according to a hybrid schedule, from home or the office according to their will and convenience, with completely flexible hours, an employee service center that provides them with all required services, the innovative “Out Of Scope” program that enables enrichment on a variety of issues that are beside the focus at work, a well-equipped gym, play areas, music rooms, well-equipped and pampering kitchens, long paid maternity leave for mothers and fathers, paid leave also to care for a close immediate family member, a Dog-Friendly work environment, events, treats and more. All this is based on the belief that providing a supportive environment to the fullest extent helps prevent employee burnout and maintain a balance between their professional and private/personal lives – ultimately making employees want to participate in Microsoft’s success.

Work-Life Balance
Microsoft allows and always has allowed a flexible hours policy. Each employee may work from home, or the office, according to their convenience, allowing room for maneuvering and responding to all employee needs, even beyond work. In addition, Microsoft works to provide a wide range of services that will enable the employee to remove tasks from their personal to-do list so that the employee can improve the possibility of quality time outside of work. The services offered are receiving packages of online orders and other postal services, laundry and dry cleaning services, a store of company products and convenience products, and leveraging the size advantage in various transactions such as credit cards and cell phones (certain services are paid for by the employee)

Giving Back to the Community
Even by connecting to the community, Microsoft employees can create an impact. Microsoft allows and even encourages its employees to take part, volunteer, and donate throughout the year to non-profit organizations (“NPO”) and projects that are close to their hearts – whether by giving them a platform to promote an NPO that speaks to them and encouraging the donation or whether it is matching the amount collected from the entire organization and doubling it.
As part of various fundraising campaigns, and in the last year alone, Microsoft employees donated over NIS 5.2 million to various associations. Moreover, Microsoft collaborates with various communities to promote technology professions from a young age, and initiates projects together with the Rashi Foundation and the Cyber Education Center, which includes the “Magashim” and “CyberFirst Girls” programs, collaborations with she codes, W2W, Upward, QueenB, and “Baot”. Many groups hold team building days as part of volunteering at various associations, so that the day of formation receives the added value of giving. Among the many events shared with associations, Microsoft also holds dog adoption days once a year and invites the employees, together with their families. and their friends, to adopt a new member of the family. And, on International Accessibility Day, Microsoft launches a campaign encouraging employees to adopt a guide dog until it is trained for a family with special needs or people with visual impairments.
