Practice Areas
The Firm handles all family and inheritance law issues, including alimony, custody, witness arrangements, domestic peace, divorce, immigration, child abductions, property division, agreements, mediation, “ketubah” (Jewish marriage contract), family tort claims, valuation of companies in family law, international disputes, and more. The partners appear in Family Law courts, Rabbinic courts, Labor courts, District courts, and the Supreme Court.
International Field – The Firm has gained a reputation for its unique expertise in handling international issues, family tort claims, and principled disputes related to children. The Firm handles large and complex cases in cooperation with large civil offices in various countries (Attorney Robert Licht Petran recently joined the New York Bar Association). In this framework, the Israeli firm, together with local attorneys, handles various cases in the United States, France, Belgium, England, South Africa, and other countries, including enforcing foreign judgments.
Recently, Attorney Sharon Licht Petran was appointed by the Family Courts to conduct legal investigations as an affiliate of a Court in the United States.
Divorce – According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, every sixth couple in Israel may find themselves in divorce proceedings. The Firm provides legal representation in the field of divorce on the following topics: drafting a divorce agreement, dealing with the race for authority, determining the grounds for divorce, drafting a peace agreement, smuggling assets in divorce proceedings, binding claims for divorce (alimony, custody, order of protection), filing a civil lawsuit, and more.
Child Custody – Child custody issues are complex legal issues that are never simple. The principle behind court rulings on custody issues is the child’s best interest. Many times, the best interest of the child conflicts with equally essential principles, such as the will of the child or the will of the parent, in whose hands custody will not be left.
Child Support – The applicable law on child support states that a parent must support his children and his spouse’s children according to the religious law that applies to him. The Firm handles a wide variety of issues in this field.
Shared Parenting Agreements – We live in an increasingly changing world, where different models of alternative families are developing, replacing the traditional family unit and the institution of marriage. These are gay couples who want to have a child (with a woman) and lesbian couples who have decided to have children with the help of sperm donation. In this framework, spouses who are not married but live together are also included. The Licht Petran Law Firm specializes in co-parenting agreements while thinking about a safe future for the children and peace of mind for the parents.
Prenuptial Agreements – A prenuptial agreement should regulate the manner of financial conduct during the marriage and the division of property upon separation. In the past, the resource balancing arrangement could only be implemented in the event of divorce or death. Still, following an amendment to the law, it is now possible to balance the property between the parties even before the marriage expires.
Wills and Inheritances – Wills and inheritances are legal issues, often involving potent emotions and much property. Dealing with these areas must be accompanied by legal counsel and representation by lawyers specializing in this field. The Firm provides legal services in the following areas: Drafting of wills • objections to a will • inheritance decree • realization of inheritance • drafting of financial agreements • submitting applications for a decree of inheritance • managing estates and everything related to inheritance laws • allegation regarding unfair influence on a testator.
The Firm also manages lawsuits on:
“Enduring Power of Attorney” – An “Enduring Power of Attorney” introduced recently as part of an amendment to the Legal Training and Guardianship Law should facilitate and help in situations where a person has lost his ability to decide independently (senile diseases, stroke, accident, etc.). The amendment allows any person to deposit an “enduring power of attorney”, a unique power of attorney, that regulates and dictates how he wants to be treated, who will decide on his behalf, and even how his assets will be managed – that is, to plan the future and control it with minimal harm to the will of the person involved, his culture and independence. This also avoided the previous situation, in which the court appointed a guardian in a long and cumbersome legal process. The Firm is certified by the Ministry of Justice to prepare “enduring power of attorney” documents and documents of expression of will, wills, and advance directives.
