Professional background: One of the founders of the Sakal Group. In the 70's, together with his brother Meir founded Sakal Brothers. The company began to market duty-free goods to United Nations personnel and diplomats in Israel and received a concession to run a duty-free store at Ashdod port. In 2002, Sakal Brothers purchased "Layam" from Zim, and established its status as a major vendor of duty-free goods to ships, in addition to its regular business transactions. Today, Layam and Sakal Brothers are Israel's leading companies in the marketing and sale of duty free products to UN personnel, multinational forces, and diplomats. In 1990 Sakal Sport received a concession to operate the duty-free store for sporting goods at Ben- Gurion Airport. In 1997 Sakal Duty-Free received the concession to operate the electrical appliances and electronics store at Ben-Gurion Airport, along with another seven duty-free stores, including a disc store, a toy store, a diskette store, a fashion store and more. In 2004 the Group took another leap forward as it gained four concessions for duty-free stores at Ben-Gurion 2000 Airport, amongst them the new electronics shop, one of the largest and most innovative in the world.
