Founded in October 1978, Micron (NASDAQ: MU) has a global presence that includes R&D sites and fabrication facilities in the United States, the Far East and Europe. International knowledge, local expertise – Micron Technologies operates in Israel through its Fab12 facility in Kiryat Gat. The Israeli fab, considered one of the world leaders in semiconductors, is equipped with the most sophisticated and advanced instrumentation for this purpose. It specializes in the mass-production of Flash memory chips using advanced technology, as well as in R&D. In 1999, the facility (as an Intel fab) began production with 180 nm logic technology, went on to manufacture 90 nm NOR Flash memory, and subsequently mass-produced Flash memory chips with 65 nm and 45 nm technology, after formal consent is received to manufacture this advanced technology. Since its establishment in 1999, $2.5 billion has been invested in Fab12 (formerly Fab18), with exports totaling $325 million in 2011.Micron Israel employs 1500 workers, including engineers, exact sciences graduates, economists, computer science graduates, practical engineers and technicians, as well as 1000 external workers.
